The library is a place for information in many forms. Students in grades K-8 visit the library every week. They are encouraged to check out one or two books each time for research or for pleasure. There are no fines, but students must return the books before they can check out again. Kindergarten and first grade students will be given a library bag during their first visit. On the bag you will find the day that the class comes to library. The students should keep their school books in the bag during the week, so that the books are not lost or misplaced. VolunteersRotate with other parents in assisting Mrs. Watson while your child is in the Library, usually once every 3-4 weedents will visit their classes and parents are welcome at any time, but please check in at the front office first. Volunteers are needed to help the students select books and calculate payments. Please contact Mrs. Watson to schedule a time. Set up is Friday, May 16 and clean up is Friday May 23. Random Readers Book Clubs (gr. 3-6)Once again the library will sponsor Random Readers Book Clubs for grades 3-6, and several special meetings for junior high readers. Random Readers meet during recess. The club features series books, and students can read any book from the series to participate. The schedule will be posted in September.
Battle of the BooksDiocesan Competition on May 14 !! A diocesan-wide competition for interested 5th and 6th grade students. Students read from a list of 16 books in a variety of genres. Five students and two alternates will be chosen to compete in a Jeopardy style competition in May. Beginning each January, , interested students meet during recess with Mrs. Watson and Mrs. Brooks-Kenny to discuss the books they have read and learn how to compete. Dessert is provided! The 2007-2008 booklist is now available. Additional ResourcesFinditva.com is an online database that students in 2nd through 8th grade are taught to use during library class. They can access the databases from home for homework and research projects. A public library card is required. My Web Library is a regularly updated online catalog of focused, educational Web resources for educators and students. This K-12 education-specific portal contains Web sites organized by essential curriculum categories (e.g. Math, English, Arts, Science). The Web Library serves as a starting point making Internet research easier for beginners and faster for experienced users. Contact your child's classroom teacher for logon password information. Area Public Libraries: Fairfax County Public Library, Loudon County Public Library and Prince William County Public Library all have online access to their catalogues, the ability to reserve books, and access public databases remotely.
