SPONSOR A STUDENT IN RWANDA

The NJHS at St. Timothy is holding fundraisers in an attempt to raise enough money to sponsor children in Sister Pat's "Support our Students" program. The cost to sponsor a child for one year is $400. This covers high school tuition, room and board , clothes and medical expensein the dress-up day and pretzel fundraisers. They have collected enough to sponsor one student and plan on holding more fundraisers toward their goal of sponsoring more students.

The 6th – 8th grade at STS was visited by Sister Patricia Mukanyonga, a Franciscan Sister of the Eucharistic Fraternity who survived the 1994 massacre in Rwanda.  Holding the Blessed Sacrament in front of her when confronted by the militia that murdered thousands, she and others in the Church were spared.  She shared with  the students about  how she has since opened three orphanages in Rwanda ministering to the children left homeless, disabled and alone.  You can learn more about her ministry at www.bridgetorwanda.com and support can be sent to Bridge to Rwanda, Inc. at 4709 Briar Knoll Dr., Kettering, OH 45429.

CELL PHONE & EYEGLASS COLLECTIONS, ongoing

We need your unused cell phones and eye-glasses!  We will donate all eye-glasses to the Lions Club to help those in need be able to see.  All prescriptions and kinds are acceptable.  We will be recycling all cell phones.  We will receive a small compensation for the cell phones, which will help fund the National Junior Honor Society’s projects.  Thank you for your support.

General Information/Criteria

The Anne Clark Chapter of NJHS was established in 1994.  Membership is bestowed upon 7th grade students who excel in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character, citizenship, and service.  Selection of new members is based on the following NJHS guidelines:

  • Academically eligible students are identified and notified in writing.  This refers to students with a 3.5 cumulative average and no special subject with a NI (needs improvement) after the first three quarters of seventh grade.
  • Eligible students pick up a Student Activity Information Form from the school office and respond in writing to the questions regarding their school and extra-curricular activities, service, and character.
  • A five-member faculty council, appointed by the principal (but not including the principal) evaluates each candidate's information along with input from other faculty members.  The Honor Society Advisor is an ex-officio, non-voting member of the faculty council.  The faculty council may use the left side of the report card in assessing the criteria of character.  An eligible student must not have a NI (needs improvement) in any category on the left side of the report card.
  • Candidates will be notified in writing of acceptance into the NJHS.  A special ceremony will be held to formally induct the new members.  Members will maintain all standards by which they were selected.
  • Members who do not maintain the 3.5 cumulative average will be informed in writing at the close of each quarter.  Members will have a probationary period of one quarter to raise their cumulative average to 3.5
  • A member who serves a detention is required to meet with the faculty advisory board.  The faculty council will review a member who earns a demerit or detention for cheating.
