The dress code provides a standard for our students, which fosters an environment conducive to learning and respectful behavior. Final decisions regarding the school uniform rest with the principal/administration.It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to see that their student is dressed modestly and appropriately at all times. This applies to the wearing of the official school uniform as well as to those days when the students are given a “free dress” day. This is particularly important at formal school functions such as dances, induction ceremonies, graduation, etc.
The optional FALL/SPRING UNIFORM (yellow polo shirt, tan walking shorts, and a khaki stretch belt) for both boys and girls may be worn until the Columbus Day weekend in October, and may be worn starting the first Monday in May. Tennis shoes may be worn with this uniform. Crew socks (white only) must be visible above the top of the shoe, and cover the ankle. Knee length socks are not permitted with this uniform. Classes that consistently follow the uniform policy will celebrate “Unifun Day” once a month and will be allowed to add items (such as silly socks) to their uniforms for that day. The particular item for each month will be announced as the day arrives.
The TRADITIONAL UNIFORM is as follows:
Girls: K-6: A brown plaid jumper (drop waist), yellow blouse, brown knee socks or white cuffed or crew socks, and a brown cardigan sweater. In cold weather, students may wear brown, black or white tights. Shoes may be black or brown, tie, buckle or slip-on. Slip-on shoes must have a back. Neither boots nor stacked heels are permitted. All earrings are limited to small, pierced, post earrings, one per ear. Dangle earrings are not permitted. Simple rings and watches are
allowed. No other jewelry is permitted. Clear nail polish is permitted. No
make-up is allowed. 7-8: The brown plaid jumper is replaced by a brown plaid skirt. There is a
yellow, button-down shirt, with a v-neck, logo sweater that is required. The
remainder of the girls' uniform policy remains in effect throughout junior high.
.It must be remembered that modesty is of the utmost importance. Girl’s skirts, jumpers, and shorts must be an appropriate length. A good rule of thumb would be to kneel down and make sure that the skirt touches the ground.
Boys: All: brown trousers (dress corduroys are permitted), brown belt, yellow dress shirt, brown tie, and brown or white cuffed or crew socks that are visible above the shoe and cover the ankle are required. Shoes may be brown or black, tie or slip-on. Boots are not permitted. The brown school sweater may also be worn in grades K-6. The brown logo sweater is mandatory in grades 7 and 8. Boys’ hairstyles are expected to be neat and clean in appearance. Hair must not be over the collar of the shirt, or so long as to obstruct vision. Boys are not permitted to wear earrings.
No student is permitted to dye, bleach, strip, frost or otherwise alter the color of his/her hair. The PE sweatshirt may not be worn with the traditional uniform. Students whose uniform does not comply with guidelines, or whose dress is inappropriate on free dress days, will be sent to the office and given a PE uniform to wear for the day.
