St. Timothy students are 21st century learners are digital natives who have grown up surrounded by electronic pathways. The modern school library needs to present and explain appropriate choices in both print and online sources so that students will know how to access, evaluate, and apply these choices, as they navigate both their educations and their daily lives. Students at St. Timothy will learn that a library is no longer confined to a brick-and-mortar building, but includes vast resources available through online databases.

Of course, the goal of the school library is also to help every student discover books, authors, and subjects that he or she finds stimulating and exciting, thus encouraging a love of reading for pleasure at all ages.

Online Catalog

search from school computers - click here

The school library catalog system may now be accessed from home computers. Students and parents may search the school library by author, title, subject, series or keyword. Items will be designated as "available" or "unavailable". At this time, holds cannot be placed but by clicking on "add to this list" you will create a printable list of items to check out that the student can bring in to the library.

Searching by subject will also give you "web path express" results. These will direct you to websites on the topic that are written expressly for the elementary aged student. Each entry will have an icon indicating the appropriate grade levels and a brief description of the website content. To test the capabilities of this system, we suggest you do a trial search of "planets" by subject. Your search results will include available books as well as the web path express links.

Volunteers

Rotate with other parents in assisting Mrs. Tierney while your child is in the Library, usually once every 3-4 week. Contact your room mother to schedule.

Library Donations

Donation Policy

Please review the attached Donation Policy for information on monetary gifts and donated items to the library.

Book Fairs

Volunteers are needed each year to set up Fall and Spring bookfairs, help the students select books and calculate payments. Please contact Mrs. Tierney to schedule a time or just stop by. Students will visit during their library times. Parents may visit until 4:00 daily. Checks and cash are accepted by students and parents may pay by credit card.

Battle of the Books

2011-12 Booklist

A diocesan-wide competition for interested 5th and 6th grade students. Students read from a list of 16 books in a variety of genres. Five students and two alternates will be chosen to compete in a Jeopardy style competition in May. Beginning each January, interested 5th grade students meet during recess with Mrs. Tierney and Mrs. Brooks-Kenny to discuss the books they have read and learn how to compete. Sixth grade students may select Battle of the Books as their third quarter elective.
