Philosophy
The philosophy of the St. Timothy Resource Center, as set down by Mrs. Kobyra, the school principal, is based on the assertion that every student has a right to a Catholic school education when space is available and the special needs of the student can be met by the Resource Center Staff. The Resource Center serves as an umbrella offering services in special education such as learning disabilities, remedial reading, resource and speech/language disorders.
The limitations of accepting special needs students are determined by the severity of the individual student's ability to function and succeed with appropriate instruction and accommodations in the classroom and the Resource Center. St. Timothy School does not accept students who may present a danger to themselves or to the school community. Students who may require counseling for emotional disorders are referred to appropriate agencies in the county. Students whose academic process is impacted by a medical or processing deficit may receive accommodations as provided under a Student Assistance Plan. These services will be determined by the specific needs of each student.
Center Overview
The St. Timothy School Resource Center provides a myriad of services to individual students with learning disabilities, the general student population, and the teaching staff. When not providing individual/small group services, resource teachers act in the role of "team teacher". They assist the classroom teacher by providing lessons on specific study techniques or by providing small group instruction to all students. Currently the resource center has been undergoing training on ELL (English Language Lerner) services as we strive to meet the changing demographics of our school and parish.
